NINTH ANNUAL GRRL TECH TECHNOLGY EXPO TO BE HELD FRIDAY, MARCH 5

 

Roger Williams University teams up with Tech Collective, Amgen, and other businesses for interactive technology expo

The ninth annual GRRL Tech, and interactive technology expo designed for sophomore and junior high school girls and their teachers, will be held at Roger Williams University on Friday, March 5.

The 2010 GRRL Tech conference, which continues to gain in popularity from year to year, will match local high school girls with Roger Williams faculty members and female professionals from local technology businesses for workshops and presentations that promote science and technology education and careers.

GRRL (Girls Reaching Remarkable Levels) Tech is organized by Tech Collective, the industry association for information technology and biotechnology in Rhode Island. Roger Williams University is hosting and cosponsoring the event with premiere sponsor Amgen, Atrion Networking Corporation, EpiVax Inc., Junior Achievement of Rhode Island, Governor’s Workforce Board of Rhode Island, and Workforce Partnerships of Greater Rhode Island.

More than 400 girls will attend workshops on topics such as computer information systems, computer forensics, engineering, marine biology, architecture, athletics, environmental, criminal justice, and more. A full tuition four-year scholarship to Roger Williams University will be presented at the conclusion of the conference to the winner of an essay contest that many of the GRRL Tech participants entered upon attending.

In addition to the workshops, Senior Engineer Kimberly Gauthier of Amgen, will deliver the opening keynote address at 9:15 a.m, and Barbi Jo DiMaria, marketing and promotions director of 92 PRO-FM will be preluding the closing lunch at noon.

 

You are welcome to attend at any time. The workshops are from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and the scholarship winner will be announced during the closing remarks.
